KARACHI, Sept 6: One-sided matches were witnessed on the opening day of the NBP Sindh Inter-Region U-16 Hockey Championship at the Hockey Club of Pakistan (HCP) here on Thursday.
The inaugural match played between Karachi-A and Hyderabad, the former beat the latter 4-1. Two goals for the winners were scored by Ehtashamuddin (12th and 19th mins) while Sharjeel (46th min) and Fareed Ahmed (70th min) scored one each.
The last goal by Fareed was a penalty-corner, converted by the fullback after the final whistle.
Meanwhile, Hyderabad’s lone goal was scored by Khizer Ahmed in the 16th minute.
In the day’s other matches played earlier, Larkana thrashed Mirpurkhas 6-1 as Karachi-B also trounced Sukkur with a similar 6-1 margin.
Shazaib scored a hat-trick for Larkana when he found the net in the 10th, 27th and 37th minutes while the other three goals were scored by Khalil (25th min), Mujtaba (30th min) and Abdul Basit (51st min) as Hannan Khalid of Mirpurkhas got the consolation goal for them in the 61st minute.
For Karachi-B, Ghulam Ali also scored a hat-trick by getting goals in the 44th, 47th and 65th minutes as the team captain Sajid (41st min), Badruddin (55th min) and Hamza Ali (67th min) added one each. Sukkur’s consolation goal was scored by Kashif Hussain in the 37th minute.
Friday’s fixtures: Hyderabad v Karachi-B at 1.00pm; Mirpukhas v Karachi-A at 3.00pm; Larkana v Sukkur at 5.00pm.
