SUKKUR, Sept 18: A total of 160 students of three age groups of different schools of the Sukkur region took part in the 8th Dawn in Education National Spelling Bee Competition held at the Sukkur Institute of Business Administration on Tuesday.

In collaboration with the United States Embassy in Islamabad, Oxford University Press, Sunny Plast and the Sukkur IBA, the Dawn Media Group organised the competition in which students aged 9-11 years, 12-14 years and 15-17 years representing schools of Sukkur, Pano Akil, Mirpur Mathelo, Khairpur, Ranipur, Naushahro Feroz and Jacobabad enthusiastically competed to win places in the Karachi regional championships to be held on Oct 3.

The contestants, in their school uniforms and shoes, performed very well in the presence of their teachers.

A groups of children presented tableaux, enjoyed and appreciated by the audience.

Later, the judges announced the results. Bahria Foundation School of Ranipur won the 9-11 age group competition, FFC Grammar School of Mirpur Mathelo won in the 12-14 age group while FFC Higher School of Mirpur Mathelo won the 15-17 age group segment.

Those groups who won the Dawn Spelling Bee Competition would take part in the national round of the competition to be held in Karachi on Oct 3.

The team which would win the competition in Karachi would take part in the final round set to be held in Islamabad in November.
