ISLAMABAD, Sept 26: Renowned writer and scholar Bano Qudsia has been nominated for the Kamal-e-Fun Award 2010, during a meeting held at Pakistan Academy of Letters on Wednesday.

Kamal-e-Fun Award is the highest literary award in the field of literature: a lifetime achievement award in creative arts and research work.

The panel of judges consisted of well-known writers, Iftikhar Arif, Dr Saleem Akhtar, Prof Sahar Ansari, Agha Khalid Saleem, Dr Riaz Majeed, Sultan Sukoon, Hafeez Khan, Prof Dr Salma Shaheen and Prof Wahid Bux Buzdar.

Later during a news conference, Chairman Pakistan Academy of Letters, Abdul Hameed announced National Literary Awards for the year 2009 and 2010.

These awards were given on the best literary books written during the years in Urdu, Punjabi. Sindhi, Pashto, Balochi, Seraiki, Brahui, Hindko and the English language.

He said that awards will be handed over in November. Rs 500,000 will be given along with Kamal-e-Fun Award and Rs100,000, along with other awards.

According to the decision of the panel for National Literary Award for the year 2010, Dr Allama Muhamamd Iqbal Award for Urdu poetry was given to Faisal Ajmi for his book “Darwesh”, Baba-e-Urdu Molvi Abdul Haq Award for Urdu prose was given to Afzal Tauseef for her book “Kia Zamane Tha; Kia Log Tha”, Syed Waris Shah Award for Punjabi language was given to Roy Muhammad Khan Nasir for his book “Hirkh”,  Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai Award for Sindhi language was given to Dr Muhammad Ali Manjhi for his book “Sufi Shah Inayat Shaheed ain Sandas Silsley Ja Shair”.

Khushal Khan Khattak Award for Pashto language was given to Saeed Gauhar for his book “Pa Obo Ke Tage”, Mast Tawakli Award for Balochi language was given to Munir Ahmad Badini for his book “Hazareen Pasani Shap”, Khwaja Ghulam Farid Award for Seraiki language was given to Habib Mohana, Taj Muhammad Tajal Award for Brahui language was given to Johar Brahui, Patras Bukhari Award for English language was given to Ejaz Rahim for his book “Safwat Ghayoour and other poems”. For the year 2009, Dr Allama Muhamamd Iqbal Award for Urdu poetry was given to Aftab Iqbal Shamim for his book “Main Nazm Likhta Hoon”.

Baba-e-Urdu Molvi Abdul Haq Award for Urdu prose was given to Mahmood Ahmad Qazi for his book “Saltant”, Syed Waris Shah Award for Punjabi language was given to Farkhanda Lodhi for her book “Jand da Angiar.”

Besides, Qazi Khadim, Ameenullah Daudzai, Munir Ahmad Badini and Sabir Chishti were also selected for awards.—A Reporter
