ISLAMABAD: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain called on President Asif Ali Zardari in London on Monday.
The MQM leader congratulated the president on his speech at the UN General Assembly that reflected the aspirations of the people of Pakistan and Muslim Ummah, a PID press release issued here said, quoting the Pakistan High Commission, London.
Hussain also felicitated the president on the passage of Sindh Peoples Local Government Ordinance (SPLGO) in the Sindh Assembly, adding, the passage of the historic bill will go a long way in meeting the demands of the people of Sindh.
Among various other issues of mutual interest they discussed various development projects for the uplift of the province of Sindh and its people, the press release said.
They also discussed various other issues related to the country and had complete consensus on issues of national interest.
According to the press release, both the leaders agreed that the PPP and the MQM would stand by each other in resolving the challenges facing the country including ways and means to restore the economy and law and order in the country with total commitment in fighting terrorism and extremism.
The president was assisted by Interior Minister Senator Rehman Malik and Pakistan's High Commissioner to UK Wajid Shamsul Hasan. Among those who assisted Altaf Hussain included Anwar Bhai and Mr Muradabadi along with others.
After an hour long meeting the president and the MQM leader had 90-minute long one-to-one meeting, the press release added.
