HYDERABAD, Oct 2: Judicial Magistrate-VI remanded Haji Nasrullah, an accused in a blasphemy case, to judicial custody for 11 days after he was produced by Hatri police on Tuesday. The case against him was lodged on Sept 17.

He was brought to the court in an armoured personnel carrier for security reasons.

He is said to be associated with the Pakistan People’s Party.

Nasrullah of Hala Naka area was booked after a group of people accused him of making blasphemous remarks when protests were being held in the area against the anti-Islam film produced in the US.

Later, a case was lodged against him on complaint of one Kachkol Ali.

The matter was reported to the management of a seminary belonging to JUI-F where clerics recorded what was described as evidence of witnesses and complainants. On Sept 28, Additional District Judge-I rejected his interim pre-arrest bail plea.

The witnesses adhered to their claims in the presence of local ANP leader Haji Asmatullah who was trying to mediate between JUI-F leaders and Haji Nasrullah.

Asmatullah dissociated himself from the issue and said that Nasrullah had approached him and that he should be given an opportunity of hearing by clerics because he had been implicated in the case.

Nasrullah had placed an advertisement in local newspapers, rejecting the blasphemy allegations.
