SWABI, Oct 11: The leaders of Pakistan People’s Party, eyeing the next general elections, are struggling to reunite workers and end grouping in the local chapter of the party, according to sources.

The PPP has failed so far to win a single seat from the district and disunity among its workers and local leaders has further weakened its position.

Insiders said that people were questioning as to how PPP leaders would work for their welfare when they failed to resolve their own issues.

“This is a big question for the party leaders,” said Qaisar Khan of Maneri Bala.

Javed Khan Inqilabi, tehsil Swabi president of PPP, when contacted, said that internal rift and grouping harmed the party in the district. People had attached great expectations to the party butt heir dreams were shattered.

He said Major (retired) Fida Hussain of Maneri claimed that he was district president of the party and provincial leaders authorised him to run the party in the district.

“But Manfat Khan also claims that he is real district president of PPP as he has been representing the party for the last two decades,” he added. He said The third group led by Zar Shaid Jadoon and supported by some distinguished leaders held separate meetings and discussed the internal rivalry in the party.

They demanded that the both groups led by Manfat Khan and Fide Hussain should be removed and the rein of the party should be given to them.

About the efforts to resolve the rift, Mr Inqilabi said that it might be difficult to amicably settle the internal issues because each group was sticking to its demands. There was dire need of showing flexibility to resolve the issues, he added.

The workers said that it was duty of the provincial leadership to resolve internal issues of the party and unite activists. It was difficult to resolve the issues without the role of provincial leadership, they added.
