PESHAWAR, Oct 15: Female students belonging to Chitral have expressed concern over indifference of the government towards the problems being faced by them in the far-flung district and demanded provision of buses to the local girls’ college.

The president of the women wing of the Peoples’ Students’ Federation (PSF), Chitral chapter, Bibi Jan while speaking at a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Monday demanded of the government to allocate sufficient funds for the uplift of the female students in Chitral.

Ms Bibi Jan said PPP women wing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa president Asma Alamgir had visited district Chitral in 2011, where she had promised to provide a bus to Government Girls Degree College, but the promise was yet to be materialised.

She said more than 1,400 female students were studying in the college, and most of whom were facing difficulties while coming from far-flung areas. Ms Alamgir had also announced Rs10 million for the construction of women vocational training centre in the district, but that promise was not realised, maintained Ms Bibi Jan. She said she had visited the residence of PPP women wing provincial president to remind her of the commitment she made with the students of Chitral, but to no avail. She said other political parties in the government had offered to provide funds for the development of the girls’ degree college, but she refused as she was the true activist of PSF.

She demanded of the party central leadership to take notice of the miseries of the female students and immediately release funds for provision of transportation facilities and construction of women vocational centre in the Chitral.

Ms Bibi Jan also threatened to stage a sit-in in front of President House in Islamabad if the problems facing the students of Chitral were not solved at the earliest.—Bureau Report
