KARACHI: Police and Rangers conducted targeted operations in various parts of Karachi on Tuesday, arresting more than 30 suspects, whereas ten people were killed in different incidents of violence across the city, DawnNews reported.

A heavy contingent of police conducted targeted operations in Karachi's Orangi Town, Manghopir and Kunwari Colony areas, arresting 26 suspects.

Police claimed to have recovered weapons and motorcycles from those arrested.

On the other hand Ranger conducted a raid in Ayub Goth near the Met office on University Road in Karachi and arrested six suspects.

Meanwhile, one policeman was killed in North Nazimabad area of the city. The slain policeman was posted in the investigation wing of the North Nazimabad police, and the killing appeared to be motivated by personal enimity, according to police sources.

One suspected robber was killed in a shootout with police in Patel Para area in Karachi.

Director for education of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation was shot dead in the KMC’s education office in Hyderabad Colony on Jamshed Road, where three armed men entered and shot him dead, according to police sources.

“The gunmen held the around 20 staff members at gunpoint, went into the office of education director Shamim Khan and fired three bullets at him,” said DSP Qaiser Ali Shah.

The suspects fled without facing any resistance.

The victim was rushed to the Civil Hospital Karachi, where he was pronounced dead on arrival, the police said.

A lawyer who had been wounded in what police described as a sectarian attack on Jahangir Road last Friday died in a private hospital on Tuesday.

The lawyer fraternity decided to protest against the killing and boycotted all court sessions for Wednesday.

An activist of the Pakistan People’s Party was gunned down in a North Nazimabad locality on Monday.

Police said the incident took place near Pahar Ganj within the remit of the Shahrah-i-Noor Jehan police station.

The victim was having tea at a restaurant when two gunmen riding a motorcycle fired shots at him according to  SP-North Nazimabad Latif Siddiqui who added that the activist had suffered bullet wounds in the head which had caused his instant death.

The police shifted the body to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

Two persons were gunned down at Burn's Road near the Government Women's College.

Another person died of gunshot wounds in the city's Soldier Bazaar area.

A two-day-old body was found near Alfalah Chowk in Machar Colony area of Karachi.

Another body was found in Nishtar Basti near Old Sabzi Mandi area.

A vehicle of a private company was attacked in Manghopir area, injuring two persons. The condition of one of the injured was reported as critical.

Employees of the company took out a protest and claimed that some criminals had demanded extortion money from the company and the incident took place as the extortionists' demands were not met.
