Man strangled to death

MONGORA, Oct 17: A woman, with the help her daughter and daughter-in-law strangled to death her husband Mir Afzal at Shalbanr Pir Kalli area of Kabal tehsil. Police said motive behind the killing was stated to be family dispute Meanwhile, the two watchmen of Khushal Public School, who were under interrogation in connection with the life attempt on Malala Yousufzai, were set free on Wednesday.

So far over 200 suspected people have been arrested in the case. Most of them have been released after preliminary investigation while 50 suspected persons are still under interrogation, sources said.

Meanwhile, the DCO has suspended services of five women teachers for negligence and refusal to perform duties during the ongoing anti-polio campaign in different areas of Swat valley. The DCO Kamran Rehman has also formed an enquiry team to probe the matter. —Correspondent

LRH launches new courses

PESHAWAR, Oct 17: Governor Barrister Masood Kausar on Wednesday launched three courses at the Khyber Teaching Hospital. The courses include basic life support healthcare, advanced cardiac support healthcare and advanced trauma support.

He appreciated the hospital’s management for dedicating the courses to the national award winner student of Swat Malala Yousafzai.  He also announced to sponsor 50 scholarships for the first batch of the entrants.

The governor appreciated the professional competency, dedicated efforts and spirit of devotion of doctors and said prestigious educational institutions of the province had produced men of high calibre in every discipline of medical science whose expertise and services were internationally acknowledged.

The governor also stressed the need for more efficient support and cooperation of the international community in strengthening the medical system especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. —Bureau Report

Grant for lawyers’ body

KOHAT, Oct 17: Governor Barrister Masood Kausar has announced Rs2.4 million for the Kohat bar association.

Speaking at a meeting with Kohat bar members the other day he said of the amount Rs2 million will be spent on welfare of lawyers and Rs200,000 each for library and mosque. The delegation was led by bar president Imtiaz Qureshi.

Meanwhile, divisional president of PPP Engr Syed Qalbe Hassan, members of ideological wing, youth wing, women wing and Peoples Students Federation of the PPP also called on the governor. The governor also announced Rs500,000 for journalists.

Meanwhile, the police seized ten kilogram hashish being smuggled from tribal area to Kohat at Marai village on Wednesday. The Marai police stopped a passenger coach (P-7290) for search and recovered ten kilograms of fine quality hashish brought to Kohat from Feroze Khel area of Orakzai. —Correspondent

Facilitation centre set up

PESHAWAR, Oct 17: Shifa International Hospital (SIH) Islamabad, on Wednesday, opened Shifa Facilitation Centre in Hayatabad to provide medical facilities to patients form Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Afghanistan.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by Director Strategic Planning SIH Mahmood Mirza, consultants, doctors and elders.

Chief Executive Officer SIH Dr Manzoorul Haq Qazi inaugurated the centre.

Mahmood Mirza said Shifa Facilitation Centre will prove to be a central access point for patients coming to SIH Islamabad for treatment. This centre will offer health awareness services and laboratory pickup points for tests to be performed at Shifa’s central laboratory. Besides, appointment desk for consultants and transportation (pick-and-drop) services for patients from Peshawar to Islamabad would also be made available.

He said Shifa had plans to start telemedicine services (through which patients in Peshawar will be checked live by doctors sitting in SIH, Islamabad), pharmacy and a laboratory. —Bureau Report

Polo tournament in Chitral

CHITRAL, Oct 17: Baba-i-Polo Muzaffar Ali Khan memorial cup polo tournament started here on Wednesday in Chitral polo ground in which 27 teams from across the district are participating. In the inaugural match, Mastuj sub-division beat the Barenis team by five goals while Jang Bazaar team emerged as victorious against Border Police in a thrilling match.

The tournament is financed by the All Pakistan Muslim League, Chitral chapter, while the former president Gen (retd) Parvez Musharraf will address the gathering on telephone, the district president Shahzada Khalid Pervaiz said.

Speaking on the occasion, he said Parvez Musharraf was held in high esteem by the people of Chitral for the meritorious services he rendered to the area. He said the former president had also taken steps to revive the game of polo in Chitral. —Correspondent Traders oppose leasing of plot

MARDAN, Oct 17: Anjuman-i-Tajraan Takhtbai has opposed the alleged allotment of six kanal plot of the TMA Takhtbai on lease to an influential personality of Mardan city and a proposed shopping plaza over it.The Anjuman-i-Tajraan president Tariq Khan and general secretary Abdul Wahab Yousafi flanked by representatives of different trade organisations expressed these views at press conference at the Mardan Press Club on Wednesday.

They lamented that the Takhtbai TMA was being bankrupted through an organised conspiracy and its precious six kanal plot located on the main Mardan-Malakand road was also being auctioned on paltry price to blue-eyed personality. They blamed that chief minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, senior provincial minister and ANP, Mardan chapter, general secretary Imran Mandoori were behind the alleged conspiracy. —Correspondent

Community health centres

GHALANAI, Oct 17: Peace has been restored in Mohmand Agency thanks to support from tribesmen, said political agent Adil Siddiq on Wednesday.

He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of three reconstructed community health centres in different areas of Safi and Ambar tehsils.

Addressing the tribesmen at these places, the PA said the administration had handed over three buildings to the health department for providing better health facilities to people. —Correspondent
