GUJRANWALA, Jan 3: The Tehsil council has allowed the local chamber of commerce and industry to hold an exhibition of industrial products at Gulshan-i-Iqbal Park in February on condition that the chamber would provide funds for construction of roads.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the council here on Friday. The meeting was presided over by city Nazim Babu Javed Ahmad and also attended by the chief engineer for planning and development and the Tehsil municipal officer. Some members of the council had objected to the proposal saying that exhibitions had ruined the park in the past. The house allowed the exhibition nevertheless.

GEPCO: The Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO) has directed all WAPDA sub-divisions within its jurisdiction to resolve consumer’s problems regarding overbilling on a priority basis.

Speaking at an open kutchery in his office here on Friday, GEPCO chief executive Brig Saif Ullah Khalid directed the Wapda officials to avoid issuing heavy bills to consumers on detection of minor thefts and installing cable-to-cable connections.

He asked the consumers to pay their outstanding dues so that they could be provided better facilities. He warned that those stealing electricity would be taken to task along with the corrupt GEPCO officials.

He said that GEPCO had formed a model sub-division in every circle where new connection was being provided to consumers within 24 hours of the deposit of demand notices in banks.
