PESHAWAR: Five children were killed and 12 others injured when the van they were travelling in met with an accident in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province's Haripur district on Monday, DawnNews reported.

The van, carrying students of a seminary, was on its way to Islamabad when and its tie-rod broke and it overturned.

The accident occurred as the van reached the district's Sarai Saleh area around 8 a.m.

Five children died on the spot whereas 12 were wounded.

The injured were shifted to a hospital for treatment.

Pakistan has one of the world’s worst records for deadly traffic accidents, blamed on poor roads, badly maintained vehicles and reckless driving. — DawnNews
