SWABI, Oct 29: The municipal authorities have failed to make arrangements for removing offal of sacrificial animals from the congested urban areas, complain residents of the district.

During a visit to different congested localities in all four tehsils, residents of the areas told this scribe that there was no plan in place to lift offal soon after slaughtering of the sacrificial animals on Eidul Azha.

They said that removal of the offal of sacrificial animals was the duty of the tehsil municipal administration to provide pollution-free environment to the people and protect them from diseases. Each year it has been claimed by the officers concerned that special arrangements would be made to ensure cleanliness and removal of offal of sacrificial animals without any delay in the city on the occasion of Eidul Azha.

“The TMAs only collect taxes from traders and other people. In fact they have forgotten their duty. Where have gone the officers, who should keep the city clean,” questioned Zar Mohammad, a resident of Maneri Bala.

Rohal Amin, a resident of Swabi city, said that TMA officers had claimed that arrangements would be made for removal of wastes of slaughtered animals without any delay to ensure cleanliness but they failed to materialise the claims.

He alleged that TMAs had only become centres of contracts and bargaining. People had slaughtered the sacrificial animals and thrown the wastes on roadside and streets. The streets were stinking and it was difficult to pass through, he said.

The people feared that offal of slaughtered animals could cause many diseases, especially among elderly persons and children.

Despite repeated attempts none of the officers of TMA could be contacted.— Correspondent
