KARACHI, Nov 9: Giving a giant killing performance, Pakistan top cueist Mohammad Asif thrashed Hong’s Kong’s Andy Lee straight 5-0 to reach final of Dubai International Open Snooker Championship in Dubai on Friday.
The Pakistan national champion broke the jinx while handing a convincing 52-38, 89-41, 119-0, 64-9, 70-17 victory over his opponent in the best of nine frames semi-final and proved that his 4-2 triumph over the same player in the league was not flash in a pan.
Asif is scheduled to face Thailand’s Nippon Singham in the final on Saturday.
Earlier, Mohammad Asif beat Omar Alkojah of Syria 5-4 to reach the semi-finals.
Asif got off to a sterling start by securing 3-0 lead with smart and brilliant potting.
But in a remarkable turnaround, fighting Alkojah levelled the terms by grabbing the next three frames and forged 4-3 ahead by seizing the seventh frame.
Playing under intense pressure, lanky Asif produced his best and won the last two frames to crave out an exciting 95-07, 91-04, 65-25, 52-65, 24-65, 27-70, 45-70, 95-25, 99-0 victory.
Pakistan number two, Asjad Iqbal fought gallantly against Hong Kong’s Andy Lee before going down 4-5 in a thrilling encounter.
Lee won 59-41, 76-23, 14-48, 34-80, 70-08, 39-67, 97-0, 0-84, 54-18.
