LAHORE: The disciplinary committee of the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) headed by Wasay Jalil on Monday imposed a six-month ban on defender Mohammad Irfan besides a cash fine of Rs 100,000 for indiscipline.

According to a recent media report, Irfan did not report back to the national camp after taking a two-day leave to attend the marriage of team-mate Mohammad Zubair.

A meeting of the disciplinary committee was held here at the National Hockey Stadium on Monday.

Insisting the disciplinary committee has always adopted the zero-tolerance policy against any undisciplined player, Wasay told reporters that the committee also reviewed the track record of Irfan’s indiscipline before taking the decision.

Irfan, he recalled, received three international matches ban from the FIH, besides receiving a cash penalty of $1,000 from the PHF for the indiscipline acts he had done in the past.

Head coach Akhtar Rasool had already excluded Irfan from the training camp, which is in progress at the Mian Sharif Stadium, Johar Town here for the Champions Trophy and Asian Champions Trophy to be held in December in Melbourne and Qatar, respectively.

Meanwhile, Akhtar said the 18-member team for the Champions Trophy would be announced on Wednesday.
