PESHAWAR, Nov 20: The Tourism Corporation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has planned to introduce a special package with multipurpose benefits for visitors to promote tourism sector in the province.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony of National Institute of Tourism, Hospitality and Hotel Management Sciences (NITHHMS) in Abbottabad on Tuesday, TCKP Managing Director Jamaluddin Shah said the plan had been finalised for the development of tourist spots in Naran and Kaghan, while land had been acquired near Saiful Mulk for tourist resort.
He said his organisation along with PAITHOM was planning a number of certified programmes leading to associate degree course in the relevant fields.
“This is the first programme of its kind in the province. It will be carried out by NITHHM, PAITHOM and TCKP on public-private partnership basis,” he said.
Mr Shah said one of these programmes was about room division management which prepared students for employment in the hospitality industry at entry level occupations.
He added that the programme offered a sequence of subjects that provided coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills needed to prepare for further education and careers in the hospitality and tourism industry.
“The programme also provides technical industrial proficiency and includes competency-based applied learning that contributed to the academic knowledge, higher order reasoning and problem solving skills, work attitudes, general employability skills, technical skills and occupational specific skills,” he said.
The TCKP managing director said the content of the coursework provided skills required to work in specialist and entry level positions in the hotel industry such as front desk agent, housekeeping supervisor or reservation clerk.
He said basic qualification required for the programme was intermediate, its duration was six months and the medium of instruction for it would be Urdu.
Mr Shah said the second programme was the associate degree in hospitality management, which was of two years. He added that the entry requirement was intermediate with the maximum age of 25 years.
