DADU, Nov 24: Eight persons who had died in a traffic accident late Friday night were buried in graveyards in Sehwan Sharif and nearby areas on Saturday.

The passengers had died when the wagon they had been travelling in collided with an under-construction bridge in Sakhro village on Jhangara-Sehwan Road near Jhangra town, around 76 kilometres away from Dadu.

The deceased were identified as 20-year-old Jiji Mahfooza Shah, the granddaughter of Syed Murad Ali Shah who is the custodian of the shrine of Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar, 16-year-old Sabiha Khaskheli, six-year-old Tabasam Khaskheli, two-year-old Zain Khaskheli, 14-year-old Daman Ali Khaskheli, 13-year-old Rida Khaskheli, 12-year-old Uzra Khaskheli and 17-year-old Tooba Shaikh.

Three others — Mohsin Shah, Naz Bibi, and Koot Bibi — were critically injured.

The deceased and the injured were brought to a taluka hospital in Sehwan Sharif, from where they were referred to a hospital in Hyderabad because the condition of the injured was critical, said Dr Moeenuddin Siddiqui, the medical superintendent in Sehwan.

Syed Murad Ali Shah said that the family was going to Jhangara town on the eve of 9th Muharram to attend a mourning gathering. All the eight victims died on the spot.

According to Jamshoro SSP Farukh Bashir, since it was dark the speeding vehicle rammed into the under-construction bridge.
