TAXILA, Nov 24: Mourners in Taxila and Wah Cantonment brought out 9th Muharram processions and held Majalis on Saturday amid tight security.
Six processions were taken out in Taxila and two in Wah Cantonment. The two cities also held 31 Majalis at Imambargahs and religious places.
The mourners at the processions beat their chest and performed flagellation, mourning the treatment meted out to Imam Zainul Abideen, the son of Imam Hussain, who was taken prisoner by the forces of Yazid.
The processions, carrying Zuljinah, Alam, tazia and taboot passed through their routes and ended peacefully in the evening.
The administration had fenced all roads leading to processions route with barbed wire, while police and other law enforcement agencies accompanied them.
Besides, they were also deployed at the processions routes as well as on the rooftops of the nearby buildings.
The residents of the buildings were barred from opening their windows and coming to roofs. However, women and children were allowed to watch the processions from windows.
Talking to newsmen Sub divisional Police Officer DSP Raja Taifour Akhter said 20 processions and 18 Majalis had been declared as “sensitive”. He said that 23 processions would be taken out in Wah Cantonment while 56 in Taxila on Sunday.
Responding to a question, he said the administration had already imposed a ban on pillion riding and display of weapons to ensure fool proof security on the eve of Ashura.
The law enforcement agencies are on red alert and surveillance of processions routes would be carried out on scientific lines.
Meanwhile Army and police contingents on Saturday conducted flag march in Taxila and Wah Cantonment.
ATTOCK: As many as 37 processions were brought out on 9th of Muharram amid strict security. Major procession of Alam-o-Zuljinah was taken out from Imambargah Sheenbagh village, Attock, which was participated by a large number of mourners and Azadars, who recited Nohas and performed flagellation and chest beating.
Special arrangements were made to facilitate the mourners.
The Zakareen in their addresses highlighted the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain and his companions in Karbala for upholding righteousness and truth against devilish forces of Yazeed.
Later, the procession after passing through its traditional route ended peacefully.
