SUKKUR, Jan 8: Members of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s zonal committee have expressed their deep concern over the deteriorating sanitary conditions in the city, specially in the local markets.

They said that the sanitary conditions in the city had not improved despite several complaints to the district Nazim and the Naib Nazim.

Overflowing water from the sewage system had made pools of stagnant water at the Nishter Road, Dhak Road, Namak Bazaar and other trading centres of the city while heaps of garbage abound in several areas of the city.

They also complained about the stoppage of development works in the city.

According to them, the DCO appeared to be indifferent to the insanitary condition and stoppage of the development works.

They accused the local administration of trying to tarnish the image of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s governor as well as the local bodies minister, saying that the sanitary conditions in the city had deteriorated after the democratic government had assumed power.

Meanwhile, members of the business community held a meeting with the members of the Muttahida’s zonal committee and complained about the insanitary conditions in the city.

Members of the Muttahida’s zonal committee extended the assurance to the representative of the business community to take up their problems with the minister for local bodies.

SUGARCANE: Agriculture experts have expressed the fear regarding decline in wheat production by 30 per cent to 40 per cent against last year’s output because of the disturbance in the sowing schedule of the crop due to inordinate delay in harvesting of sugarcane.

Talking to this correspondent, they said that the ideal time for wheat cultivation was from Nov 15 to Dec 15, but the harvest of sugarcane could not be started in a number of areas because of the wrong policies of the government and the delaying tactics of the sugar mill owners.

They said that the sowing of wheat could be delayed. This might ultimately result in lowering of the wheat production target.

The late harvest of wheat would consequently hit the onion crop.
