SPORT DESK: Pakistan’s Mohammad Asif on Saturday took another step towards the world snooker crown when he bulldozed Malta’s Alex Borg 7-1 to storm into final of the IBSF World Snooker Championship in Sofia, Bulgaria.
The 30-year-old Asif, who lost in the last 32 round in the World Championship in Hyderabad, India, last year produced a spectacular potting and safety play against Borg.
In a best of thirteen frames one-sided semi-final, the Pakistani player outclassed his opponent.
Asif is the third Pakistani to reach final of the world event. Before him, Mohammad Yousuf had won it in 1994 while, in 2003, Saleh Mohammad was defeated by Pankaj Advani of India.

But The IBSF World Snooker Championship (also known as the World Amateur Snooker Championship) is the premier non-professional snooker tournament in the world.

My dear this tournament has a long history and is a premier tournament that is around fifty year old. Please do not try to under estimate others.

I googled a little it is true that our media has been misinforming the nation. There is no World Snooker champion currently going as an international event.

Happy potting Asif. We need good news on the Sports front. The chances of our hearing positive tidings from the political or economic front do not exist.

have a heart buddy , Asif won the championship by 10-8. A very closely fought match. For your information Asif went for the championship from his own pocket and without a coach. This is called Raw Talent from Pakistan achieved the championship . This country has so much potential. Salute to Asif . Pakistan Zindabad with all the problem we are facing as a nation.

That's pity that our nation has been misinformed on Snooker championships. IBSF World Snooker Championship is a competition for non-professionals and amateurs and moreover, this years world snooker championship has already been held in April. Mr. Yousaf had never won any ranking tournament, let alone professional world title. As far I know, any Pakistani player had never entered (due to low or no ranking) in professional World Snooke Cahmpioship.
