ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday decided to take political parties into confidence on delimitation of constituencies in Karachi.

“In order to examine the issue of delimitation of constituencies in Karachi in light of the observations of the apex court, the election commission has decided to take on board the political parties in Karachi for obtaining their views,” said an ECP statement.

For this purpose, letters have been sent to political parties asking them to nominate not more than two representatives to attend the meeting on December 20 at the ECP secretariat.

Meanwhile, the chief secretary Sindh has assured full cooperation to the election commission for this purpose. The secretary has said that boundaries of certain police stations in Karachi, as administrative units, had already been reconstituted, while the concerned District Coordination Officers or the Deputy Commissioners had informed him that except in District West no reconstitution of revenue estate boundaries was required.

Therefore, the commission has decided to take the political parties on board for transparent delimitation and resolve the issue in the light of the Supreme Court observations.
