KARACHI, Dec 26: Pakistan stormed into semi-finals of the eight-nation Asian under-14 tennis team event in Doha imposing to straight victory over Qatar one in the last group ‘B’ match the other day.

According to the information reaching here, Asian No 1 Nofil Kaleem carved out 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 victory over Omer Juwafi while Dawer Rehan disposed off Essa Shannon 6-3, 6-2 to complete the rout.

Pakistan is drawn to meet the UAE in the first semi-final while Iran faces Saudi Arabia in the second.

The nations competing in the event are Pakistan, Qatar, Bahrain, Iran, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Lebanon and Kuwait. The hosts have fielded two outfits in the competitions. Besides Nofil and Dawer, Abdal Hyder and Muzammil Murtaza are other members of Pakistan quartet. Kamran Khalil has accompanied as coach.

Earlier, Pakistan whipped Bahrain 2-1 in their opening group match. Iran and Qatar one are the other two teams in the group.

The president of Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF), Syed Kaleem Imam, was in Doha and watched the matches.

Results: Pakistan bt Qatar one 2-0 Nofil Kaleem bt Omer Juwafi 6-3, 2-6, 6-1; Dawer Rehan bt Essa Shannon 6-3, 6-2.

Pakistan lost to Iran 1-2 Dawer lost to Mohammed 4-6, 6-0, 4-6; Abdal and Nofil bt Mohammad and Arman 6-1, 6-4; Nofil lost to Arman 5-7, 3-6.

Pakistan bt Bahrain 2-1 Dawer Rehan bt Hamid 6-0, 6-0; Nofil Kaleem lost to Ahmed Mohammed 3-6, 4-6; Dawer and Abdal Hyder bt Hamid and Ahmed Mohammed 6-1, 6-1.
