PESHAWAR, Dec 29: The Taliban have shot dead 21 Levies personnel who were kidnapped three days ago from Frontier Region Peshawar, officials said on Sunday.

“We found 21 bullet-riddled bodies of security personnel a short while ago in an uninhabited area,” local government official Naveed Akbar told AFP.

The militiamen were abducted from paramilitary posts outside Peshawar on Thursday and the bodies were found about four kilometres away.

The militants had attacked and destroyed three Levies posts at Koi Hassan Khal and Jina Kor areas on Thursday. Two personnel were killed and 23 taken away.

According to private news TV channels, 21 bodies were found and two of the personnel were able to reach hospital in Peshawar where condition of one was reported serious.—AFP
