PESHAWAR, Jan 8: A former chief justice of Peshawar High Court, Justice (retd) Sardar Fakhre Alam, expired here at Khyber Teaching Hospital on Tuesday.

He was 84.The funeral of Justice Sardar Fakhre Alam, who also remained the chief election commissioner of Pakistan, would be offered at his ancestral area Kot Najibullah in Haripur on Wednesday at 12 noon.

The deceased left behind a son, Dr Sardar Raheel Alam, and a daughter, Mrs Rohina Ibrahim Akram. He was brother of former air vice martial (retd) Sardar Asif and Engineer Sardar Mohammad Tariq.

Late Justice Fakhre Alam was born in Peshawar in 1929. He passed his LLB examination from Law College Lahore, University of Punjab, in 1951.

He was appointed as assistant advocate general, government of West Pakistan in 1967 and was promoted as additional advocate general of West Pakistan in 1968. The deceased was appointed as advocate general of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (then called as N.W.F.P) in 1970 and remained on that post till 1973.

Justice Fakhr was appointed as additional judge of the Peshawar High Court on Jan 26, 1977, and was later made permanent. He was appointed as a judge of the Federal Shariat Court on April 1, 1984.
