SWABI: Three policemen were injured on Tuesday after unidentified men hurled hand grenades at a police patrol in the main bazaar here.

SHO of the city police station Izhar Shah told Dawn that the police party was on patrol in the main bazaar in the district headquarters and when it reached near Link Road, two motorcyclists hurled hand grenades at it before fleeing to a busy market on Link Road.

He said police blocked Link Road and no one was allowed to either leave or enter the area.

The SHO said police conducted intensive search operation and arrested three suspects.

“We have arrested three suspects and their interrogation is underway. We have yet to know who are behind the attack,” he said.

Mr Shah said the injured policemen were Saddam Khan, Asad Khan and Amir Zaman and they all belonged to his police station.

He said the injured were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors declared their condition to be out of danger but said they needed intensive care.

The SHO said an FIR had been registered against unidentified attackers and began investigation.
