SUKKUR, Jan 18: Two more children died of measles in different parts of Jacobabad city on Friday.
Five-year-old Shumaila Soomro died of measles at her home in Drakhan Muhalla and four-year-old Kainat, daughter of Ghulam Mustafa Lashari, brought to the Civil Hospital Jacobabad from Jan Mohammad Talani Colony died on Friday, sources said.
Mr Lashari told the media that his daughter had been vaccinated against the disease but could not recover. He apprehended that the vaccine provided to the health facility might be of poor quality, and called for examining the stocks.
NAWABSHAH: In Ghandia village near Sakrand, five-year-old Ali Raza, son of Ghulam Sarwar Zardari, and two-year-old Sohana, daughter of Kalu Zardari, died of measles on Friday.
A large number of children suffering from measles were reportedly waiting for health teams to visit their villages and vaccinate them against the disease. Government and private health facilities at taluka headquarters and other towns have been receiving scores of measles cases every day.
Shaheed Benazirabad District Health Officer Dr Bahadur Khero could not be reached for comment despite repeated attempts.
MIRPURKHAS: Director of health services in Mirpurkhas division Dr Ghulam Ghous Kaimkhani has said five children have died of measles in the division since Jan 1.
He told Dawn on Friday that two of the deaths were reported from Mirpurkhas taluka, one each from Mithi and Diplo taluka of Tharparkar district and one from Jam Nawaz Ali taluka of Sanghar district.
He said that a total of 29 children with measles were admitted to different hospitals of the division. In all, he said 352 measles cases were reported from various districts of Mirpurkhas division this month.
Mirpurkhas district measles surveillance coordinator Dr Khalid Hussain Memon said that over 60,000 children had already been vaccinated against measles in the district and the campaign was continuing.
