KARACHI, Jan 16: Karachi Whites were in sight of their much-needed first victory in the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy National Cricket Championship when they forced Dadu to bat again in the Group-II fixture at Quaid-i-Azam Park (Steel Town) on Thursday.
Dadu, after being bowled out for 219, closed the penultimate day of the four-day tie at 154 for three in the second innings. They are still seven runs short of making Karachi Whites bat again.
Young fast bowler Tabish Khan bowled with hostility in the morning to capture four wickets for 70 runs as Dadu added 68 to their overnight tally of 151 for four.
Rizwan Ahmed, resuming the day at 48, top-scored for the visitors with 84 off 140 balls.
Batting a second time, Dadu performed promisingly thanks to an unbeaten 55 off 168 deliveries by Mohammad Saleem and opener Akhtar Bangash’s 59-ball 41. Both these batsmen stroked five boundaries each.
Meanwhile at UBL Sports Complex, Allied Bank continued their domination of Pak PWD by amassing 462 for six in their first innings with former Test stars Wajahatullah Wasti and Ijaz Ahmed Junior hitting centuries.
Wahajat hit 15 fours in making 108 off 250 balls while Ijaz made a 289-ball 125 with the aid of 14 fours and one six.
Allied Bank now enjoy a lead of 183 runs with four wickets intact.
Bahawalpur are just a wicket away from making the round of 16 after Multan limped to 93 for nine in their second innings at Multan Cricket Stadium.
The hosts require another 19 runs to avoid an innings defeat.
Medium-pacer Rana Aqeel, playing as a guest player, was Multan’s tormentor with excellent figures of seven for 54 to follow his first innings return of three for 56.
Earlier, Bahawalpur added 77 more runs to Wednesday’s total of 214 for seven. Skipper Inam-ul-Haq led the way with 84 while debutant Abdul Samad finished on 36 not out.
