PESHAWAR, Jan 21: Pakistan Television (PTV) and the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) recorded victories against their respective rivals in the fourth National Tray Hockey Championship here at the Lala Ayub Hockey Stadium on Monday.

In the first match, PTV opened the account against the HEC in the 10th minute when Manzoor Mushtaq sounded the board with a perfect hit on the first penalty-corner while full-back Ijaz doubled the lead for PTV in the dying moments of the first half.

The PTV earned two penalty corners and scored on both to lead 2-0 at halftime, and gave the HEC no chance to make comeback.

In the second half, the HEC struck back. It was in the 43rd minute when they reduced the margin through full-back Adil Zaman who also slammed in a perfect goal while in the 49th Zeeshan Ikram made it 2-2 in the 49th converting a penalty-corner on rebound.

The PTV revived themselves and while adding pressure on the opposition scored three quick goals in the 57th, 63rd and 70th minutes to take a big 5-2 lead. They won the match with the same scoreline.

In the second match, the PAF edged out Sindh 2-1. PAF’s Mushtaq sounded the board on the first penalty-corner in the 19th minute and did the same in the 23rd in a similar fashion.

Leading 2-0 at half-time, the PAF dominated the proceedings. In the dying moments Sindh finally succeeded in scoring a goal through their inside-right Junaid.—APP
