KARACHI, Jan 26: All office-bearers have returned unopposed in the election of the Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians.

According to Sindh PPP general secretary Taj Haider, who returned unopposed along with provincial president Syed Qaim Ali Shah, the election was conducted by an election commission headed by Farooq Naek.

The commission had invited nominations from candidates during its visit to all provincial headquarters.

Mr Haider said as no other candidates had filed nomination papers except the sitting office-bearers, all of them had returned unopposed.

According to the result, Makhdoom Amin Faheem was elected chairman of the PPPP, Raja Pervez Ashraf secretary general and Nafisa Shah deputy secretary general.

In Balochistan, Dr Sadiq Umrani and Mir Baz Khetran were elected provincial president and general secretary, in Punjab Mian Manzoor Wattoo and Tanvir Ashraf Kaira and in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Anwar Saifullah was elected president.

Replying to a question, Mr Haider that as had happened before the 2008 elections, the Election Commission had not registered the Pakistan People’s Party because another party led by Aftab Sherpao was already registered with the same name.
