ISLAMABAD, Jan 27: The Majlis-i-Wahdat-i-Muslimeen (MWM) is organising a multi-party conference in Quetta on Jan 29 on the issues of governor’s rule in Balochistan and the killing of Shias in the province.

Some 20 political parties, including the Pakistan Muslim League-Q, Muttahida Qaumi Movement and Jamaat-i-Islami, have said they will participate in the conference. However, Pakistan People’s Party is reluctant to take part because of the stance taken by Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (Fazl) against governor’s rule in the province, Dawn has learnt.

At the conference the deteriorating law and order situation in the province will be discussed and future line of action will be devised to avoid incidents like bomb blasts, according to sources.

Ameen Shaheedi of the MWM told Dawn that Jamaat-i-Islami leader Liaquat Baloch, PML-Q leader Naseer Mengal and other prominent leaders of political parties had confirmed their participation in the MPC.“After the bomb blasts at Alamdar Road, people belonging to different segments of life protested all over the country and even abroad, due to which the government agreed to impose governor’s rule in Balochistan,” he said.

“Protests by the JUI-F against governor’s rule have served to heighten concerns of people of Balochistan that someone similar to Nawab Aslam Raisani would be imposed on them,” he said.

“We want to ensure peace in the province and for that we want to take major political parties on board,” he said.
