KARACHI, Feb 7: A naval officer and his wife were injured in a mysterious explosion in their car in the parking area of Bahria College located behind the PNS Rahat off Karsaz Road on Thursday.

According to sources, Syed Asif Kazmi and his wife suffered serious injuries in the explosion and they were taken to PN Hospital.

A Pakistan Navy spokesman said it was apparently an explosion of the CNG cylinder fitted in the car.

But well-placed sources in the law-enforcement apparatus told Dawn that an explosive device had been planted beneath the car and it was detonated by remote control.

Police were not allowed to examine the scene of the blast.

Navy’s spokesman Lieutenant Commander Kamran called it a low-intensity explosion.

A statement issued by the Directorate of Public Relations (Navy) said initial investigation indicated it to be an explosion of the CNG cylinder in the car. Further investigations were under way to ascertain the causes of the explosion, the statement added.
