LARKANA, Jan 21: A three-member team of Japanese specialists of skin diseases arrived here on Monday to conduct a four-year- long research on leishmeniasis at the Chandka Medical College Hospital — a skin disease caused by the sand-fly.

The members of the team include Prof Shigeo Onako (dermatologist), Prof Yoshihisa Hashiquchi (Oarasitologist) and Prof Kenkatakura (microbiologist).

The CMCH’s head of the department of Dermatology, Dr Abdul Manan Bhutto, who had been sent to Japan for a two-month-long training on leishmeniasis, would assist the Japanese team along with the in-charge of the Larkana Leprosy Centre, Dr Farooqur Rehman Soomro.

The disease leaves blemishes on the face and can also prove to be fatal if not cured at early stage.

According to the experts, the only way to control the skin disease is to spray the affected areas from air to kill the sand- fly.

So far, 3,500 patients had been cured in Larkana district while 7,500 were treated in Dadu district.

Doctors said that they treat 10 to 15 patients afflicted by the skin disease on a daily basis in taluka hospitals.—APP

girls college: The Sindh revenue minister, Altaf Hussain Unnar, said that soon a full-fledged B.Ed College for girls would be established in Larkana, reports our Correspondent.

Addressing the district’s heads of nation-building departments on Monday, he said that with the setting up of the college we could provide training facilities to the girls in their home district.

He said that plans were going on to begin Masters classes in Information Technology and other computer-related courses in Larkana so as to bring the students at par with those of other districts.

He asked the district officer, revenue, to ensure the removal of encroachments by Tapedars made inside the Muhktiarkar’s office in Shahdadkot.

He asked the officers to submit a vacancy position in their departments, and added that the government was making sincere efforts in fighting against the growing rise in unemployment in the province.

Responding to the growers and tillers’ demand, the minister asked the irrigation officials to ensure proper water supply to the tail-enders of the waterways in Warah and Shahdadkot sub-divisions.

He warned that tampering with the waterways would not be tolerated at any cost.

He asked the revenue officers to hold regular open katcharies in various towns of the district.
