LAHORE: Former Olympian goalkeeper Ahmed Alam has tendered resignation as coach of the national hockey team, citing family commitments.

He will quit after the end of the ongoing session of the national training camp at the National Hockey Stadium.

Talking to Dawn, Alam said he was resigning only because of family commitments and he had no differences with the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF).

Alam had been with the PHF as junior and senior team coach for the last five years. He joined the senior team after the London Olympics.

During his tenure as goalkeeping coach Pakistan won bronze medal in the last Champions Trophy in Melbourne, Australia and later a gold medal in the Asian Champions Trophy in Doha, Qatar.

Meanwhile, when contacted, PHF secretary Asif Bajwa told Dawn that Alam was facing some problems in maintaining his association with the national team due to family responsibilities.

Bajwa said Alam rendered great services during his tenure and he would be welcome whenever available. —Sports Reporter
