MARDAN, Feb 22: A boy was killed and another received injuries when roof of a house collapsed due to rain in Nadar Sher village of Shergar in Mardan district on Friday.

Local people said that roof of the house of Hussain Khan collapsed at around 9am. They said that 10-year-old Naveed Khan, the son of the house owner, was killed in the incident. They said that 12-year-old Shoaib, another son of Hussain Khan, sustained injuries in the roof collapse.

The residents of the area rushed to the spot and retrieved the body and injured boy from the debris. They took the body and injured to the nearby hospital.

Hussain Khan told police that other family members remained unhurt as they were busy in their domestic activities in the yard of the house and some were outside the house. It pertinent to mention here that roofs of several houses had collapsed in Gharibabad and Katlang areas during the last spell of rain few days ago wherein a woman and a child were killed while three other persons were injured.

According to Metrological office in Peshawar, 11 and 10 inches snow was recorded in Kalam and Malam Jabba areas of Swat district, respectively. Kalam also received 22mm rain. The downpour and snowfall started in the region on Thursday night and continued on Friday.

Peshawar received 22mm rain since Friday morning. The Met office said that the rain would continue on Saturday. Other areas of the province also received heavy shower.

In Mohmand Agency, heavy downpour continued on the second consecutive day on Friday.

The continued downpour paralysed life in parts of Mohmand tribal region. The boundary walls of several houses collapsed due to heay rain.

The weather again turned chilly and people preferred to remain indoors. The farmers and agriculturists said that the rain would be beneficial for wheat crops in the tribal area.—Dawn Report
