THE right of operation of the Gwadar Port has recently been given to China. At the national level, many people have appreciated the deal because they believe that China can operate the port more effectively unlike Singapore.
However, the people of the province were not taken into confidence by the federal government before it took this decision. The port should be operated with care and local people should be taken into confidence and given priority in appointing staff at the port.
As a result of this policy, the port will have a positive impact on the economy and will open new vistas for trade and industrial progress in the country.

Government should ask the new operators of Gawadur port to copy the policy of Engro for purposes of providing jobs to locals of Baluchistan in Gawadur port. The policy in its essence is financing education of the best youngesters of Baluchistan in good national institutions based in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad and then hiring them in the company after they have successfully competed in an open and transparent process for positions in Gawadur Port. In this manner Gawadur port will get quality manpower and some of them will be local too. This will be a win-win situation for the operator of Gawadur port and the people of Baluchistan.

Pakistan has mortgaged it's pride by giving the port to be managed by China or for that matter any other country. Chinese will send their countrymen to do he jobs and locals will be given gatekeeper and watchmen jobs! This is happening in several African countries where China has a role to play. They are the new colonial. Power of third world. Good luck Pakistan

Be careful. China is not known to hire locals. They bring their own labor and managers, All the infrastructure they build will be to optimize their profit at cost to local population and environment. See their experience in Africa,

While the Selection process should give some weightage to the local candidates the bulk of focus must be on selecting a qualified candidate. Being local should not be certificate for a job.

Why can't Pakistan operate this pakistanin port? Do they not have the skills? The chinese will bring in their own workers (as they do in Africa) and pakistan will gain nothing.

Good suggestion, at least 60% jobs should go to the people of Baluchistan.
