QUETTA, March 2: Gunmen targeted a car in the border town of Tump in Turbat district early on Saturday, killing the four occupants before setting the vehicle on fire, official sources said.

“Bodies were charred beyond recognition,” said Hussain Jan, an official of local administration.

Sources said the four men were going to Mand, another border town, when their car came under fire on the outskirts of Tump. They were killed on the spot.

The attackers then set the car on fire, official sources said.

Levies personnel reached the scene of the incident near Rohan Bridge and took the bodies to the district hospital Turbat. They said gunshots which hit the car might have caused the fire.

Investigation was under way.

Two of the slain people were identified as Abdullah and Fazal Mohammad by their relatives whom they had told that they were going to Mand. Both Abdullah and Fazal were residents of Mand.

The other two dead could not be identified. “We have no idea who these men are,” the relatives of Abdullah told the Levies officials.

The cause of the attack could not be ascertained. However, Levies officials said Abdullah had enmity with some tribesmen in the area.

“They (tribesmen) might have attacked the car,” Mr Jan said, adding the incident could be the result of the old enmity. Levies personnel found weapons in the burnt car.
