LAHORE, March 7: The strong ZTBL women’s cricket team outplayed the Punjab outfit in the final to win the second Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Women Cricket Challenge Trophy at the Gaddafi Stadium here on Thursday.

Batting first after winning the toss, the ZTBL team scored an impressive 147-5 in the allotted 20 overs with Qanita Jalil leading the way with a fine 44 that included four boundaries. She was well supported by national captain Sana Mir (29) and Javeria Khan (24).

Anum Amin and Elizabeth Barkat of Punjab bowled well to capture two wickets each.

In reply, the Punjab women’s team could not put up much resistance to the ZTBL bowlers and were restricted to 87-8 in the stipulated 20 overs.

Only Sidra Amin (36) faced the opposition attack resolutely, slamming four boundaries, while the next best scorer was Iram Javed (20).

For ZTBL, Nida Dar was outstanding with the leather, capturing 3-10 to get rid of the top order Punjab players. Sadia Yousuf also bowled well to bag two wickets for ten runs.

ZTBL won the match by 60 runs and received the winners’ prize of Rs200,000. Qanita Jalil was declared player of the match. Runners-up Punjab team received Rs100,000 while Bismah Maroof of ZTBL was declared the player of the tournament and received a cheque of Rs25,000.

Umpires Sohail Jaffer and Shakeela Rafiq officiated in the final with Mohammad Asif as TV umpire. Former first class cricketer Zaigham Burki was the match referee.—Agencies
