KARACHI, March 12: Hosts Aga Khan University (AKU), Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) and Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET) conjured up magnificent victories over their opponents on the opening day of the 36th HEC Inter-university zone ‘G’ basketball championship at the formers courts on Monday.

The AKU opened their campaign outplaying PAF Kiet 52-27 in the one-sided match. The winners led 37-7 at half time.

Bilal Khan, Muzammiluddin and Saad Naseer were the main architect of AKU’s win scoring 13, 10, and eight points, respectively.

Omer was the only player for losers who finish in double figures with 10.

Hammad Aftab and Ghazi Khan guided DUHS to an exciting 59-38 points victory over Ziauddin University. The former mustered 14 points while the latter contributed 12. Saif and Abdul Moiz scored 13 and 12, respectively for losers.

S. Israr Hassan and Taha Rasul were the pick of the SSUET which shocked defending champion and top seed Greenwich University 54-37 after enjoying 25-18 at half time.

The former was on a scoring spree and finished with an individual tally of 24. The latter contributed 17. Ali Suriya and Aly Zuberi scored 14 and 9, respectively for losers.

Both the teams have got first round bye. The victory helped winners reach the last four.

Institute of Business Management (Iobm) got a walkover against Institute of Business Administration (IBA).—Sports Correspondent
