KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain has ordered that his party temporarily shutdown its election offices in Karachi in the wake of attacks on MQM workers and supporters, DawnNews reported.

The MQM chief strongly condemned the attack on an MQM election camp in Karachi on Tuesday evening. He also said that political and religious parties must condemn all such terrorist attacks.

"In an environment like this, who will come out and cast their vote," the MQM chief said.

The party has also announced that a day of mourning will be observed throughout Sindh on Wednesday.

Businesses and transport will be shut in Karachi tomorrow, the MQM's Rabita Committee announced.

Private schools will also be closed on Wednesday, said the Private Schools Association.

The MQM along with the Awami National Party and Pakistan Peoples Party have all been targeted in recent days in numerous militant attacks.

The Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) have issued statements saying that they will target 'secular parties' in the run-up to general elections on May 11 in the country.

The TTP have singled out MQM, ANP and PPP candidates and supporters as their intended targets.
