KARACHI, April 24: As many as 17 universities will take part in the 11th Aga Khan University (AKU) Sports Centre Inter-university Football Tournament which kicks off from Thursday.

The tournament will be formally inaugurated by Dr Amir H. Shariff, assistant professor and consultant general surgeon at the AKU’s department of surgery, at the AKU Football Ground.

The teams have been divided into four groups with Groups ‘A’ to ‘C’ carrying four teams with Group ‘D’ having five teams. The top two teams from each group qualify for the quarter-finals.

Groups: Group ‘A’: Aga Khan University (AKU), Karachi Medical & Dental College (KMDC), Iqra University (IU), Sindh Medical University (SMU).

Group ‘B’: Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Jinnah Medical & Dental College (JMDC), Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology (SSUET), Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS).

Group ‘C’: Pakistan Naval Engineering College (PNEC), Liaquat National Medical College (LNMC) Baqai Medical University (BMU), Hamdard University (HU).

Group ‘D’: Ziauddin University (ZU), Bahria University (BU), Liaquat College of Medicine & Dentistry (LCMD), PAF-Karachi Institute of Engineering & Technology (PAF-KIET), National University of Sciences & Technology (NUST).—Sports Reporter
