ISLAMABAD, April 24: The Supreme Court will take up a contempt petition against people holding top offices, including President Asif Ali Zardari, in the dual nationality case on Thursday (today).
A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry will hear the petition moved by Mehmood Akhtar Naqvi seeking initiation of contempt proceedings against President Zardari for administering oath to former interior minister Rehman Malik after his re-election as senator.
The bench may take up a contempt petition also filed by Mr Naqvi against former prime minister Raja Pervez Ashraf and former law minister Farooq H. Naek for approving a dual nationality bill in the cabinet and tabling it in the Senate although the matter was sub judice.
The petitioner had also requested the court to initiate a contempt proceeding against Mr Malik for misleading the bench in the dual nationality case and not producing record renouncing his British citizenship.
