HYDERABAD: A Rangers personel was gunned down in an armed attack by a sniper in the B-section police station area of Latifabad unit-6 on Thursday night.

The Ranger, identified as Mohammad Riaz, died on the spot. Police recovered seven empty shells of a 9mm pistol from the scene of the attack.

According to SSP Hyderabad Saqib Ismail Memon, two armed assailants riding a motorbike fired on the Rangers’ kiosk located at the gate of the Rangers officers mess.

The victim is said to have received two bullet injuries, one in the head and the other in his chest, which proved to be fatal. Fear gripped the area. Reports said that the incident took place when there was no power supply.

Police sources said that another Ranger's personel was also present with the deceased man, but he remained unhurt.

He said that SHO Naeem Siddiqui was the first one who reached the spot.

DIG Akram Naeem Barokha told this scribe, that some clues were found, but details could not be disclosed at this point of time.

“Facts regarding the incident will be available shortly,” he said, further stating that information sharing between SSP Hyderabad and Rangers colonol is underway.

On April 11 a candidate of MQM, Fakhrul Islam on PS-47 was gunned down in Hatri police station area.

MQM observed a day of mourning in Karachi and Hyderabad on Wednesday against the attack on their election offices.
