LAHORE, April 29: Ali Haider’s double strike helped Sargodha overcome Larkana 2-1 as five matches were decided in the Motorway Police National Under-16 Hockey Championship for Boys on the opening day at the National Hockey Stadium here on Monday.
Ali gave Sargodha 1-0 lead in the 35th minute. However, Larkana equalised after halftime through Syed Johar’s 48th minute field goal. But Ali’s 57th minute field goal proved decisive.
In a completely one-sided match, Sialkot bulldozed Sukkur 19-0 thanks to captain Nohaiz Zahid and Wasim Akram, who slammed five goals each. While Nohaiz hit the board in the 7th, 17th, 21st, 22nd and 27th minutes, Wasim found the net in the 32nd, 38th, 51st, 52nd and 56th minutes.
Mohammad Usman (14th, 16th), Mansoor Bashir (24th, 36th), Faizan (31st, 48th), Mohammad Arsalan (48th, 57th) and Ali Raza (53rd) were the other scorers.
Meanwhile, three goals each by Atiq and Mudassar Ali enabled Faisalabad to register a big 12-0 win against Kohat.
Atiq found the cage in the 7th, 28th and 46th minutes while Mudassar sounded the board in the 8th, 39th and 40th. Sohail (10th, 14th), Mohsin (42nd, 43rd), Naveed (50th) and Dawood (59th) were the other scorers.In another match, Quetta earned a 5-1 win against Fata.
Saqib (48th, 52nd), Jahangir (3rd), Qasim (45th) and Asfand (58th) scored for the winners. Aftab Ahmed (40th) reduced the margin of defeat for Fata.
In the day’s fifth match, Lahore registered a 7-1 win against Mardan with goals coming from Shan (9th, 26th), Rana Sohail (16th, 39th), Awais-ur-Rehman (29th) and Asif (43rd, 59th). Ajmal Khan fired a goal in the 31st minute for Mardan.
Meanwhile, a national coaches clinic, being conducted by international coaches Tahir Zaman and Khawaja Junaid, also began at the National Hockey Stadium.
