SUKKUR, Jan 26: Five students of the Government Degree College Ghotki were injured when police baton-charged them for holding a protest demonstration against the US on Saturday.

The students had taken out the protest on the call of the Islami Jamiat-i-Tulba.

The students took out a procession from the college and went all the way up to the Ghotki press club where the TPO asked the students to disperse but they refused to do so.

The police started beating them with batons as a result of which five students — Mohammad Shoaib, Syed Zawar Hussain, Riaz Ahmed Gadani, Arshad, and Aziz Kolachi — were injured.

Later, police arrested 10 students. The names of five were ascertained as Zahid Ali Shah, Malik Abdul Bhambhro, Sohail Gadani, Ashraf Ali, and Khadim.

Ahsan Hafeez, president, Islami Jamiat-i-Tulba, condemned the action of the Ghotki police saying that the students had been peaceful and were protesting against the US’s intentions to attack Iraq.

He demanded a high-level inquiry against the police for beating students. He also demanded that all arrested students be released.

Similar protest demonstrations were also taken out in Sukkur.

HYDERABAD: A group of students of the Kali Mori Government College, under the banner of the Islami Jamiat-i-Tulaba, staged a demonstration outside the press club here on Sunday against the possible US attack on Iraq.
