ROME: Veteran playmaker Andrea Pirlo on Thursday revealed his intention to quit international football after next year's World Cup.

“In 2014 I will finish with the national team. I think the World Cup will be my last outing in the blue shirt. The young players need to be given their chance,” said the Juventus midfielder, who was outstanding during Italy's run to the Euro 2012 final but will be 35 by the time of next year's World Cup in Brazil.

“I will continue at club level for as long as I still have the passion and for as long as I feel important. Otherwise I would be the first person to retire,” added Pirlo, who was speaking at the presentation of his autobiography, Penso Quindi Gioco (I Think Therefore I Play).

Juve could seal a second consecutive Serie A title when they entertain Palermo this weekend and Pirlo still hopes to win the Champions League next season.

“The Champions League is the dream. Hopefully we can win it next year,” he said.
