ISLAMABAD, March 14: The foundation laying ceremony of the Gujar Khan campus of Comsats Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) was held at Prime Minister House on Thursday.
Speaking at the function, Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf said the establishment of the CITT campus at Gujar Khan was his dream as he always wanted educational development in his home constituency.
He said Gujar Khan was the land of brave soldiers, hardworking peasants and lovers of Benazir Bhutto. The Comsats institute in Gujar Khan will serve as a centre of learning for the students from the surrounding areas. He said the best form of development was propagation of education and the PPP had always held education as its top priority. He expressed the hope that, as promised by the institute management, classes at the campus would start in August this year.
The prime minister said he was confident that the PPP would again win the next general elections because it had served the people and delivered facilities to them at their doorsteps.
He said for the first time the PPP had completed a five-year term despite having only 124 seats in the National Assembly.
He said this success was a result of the reconciliation process initiated by slain party chairperson Benazir Bhutto and President Asif Ali Zardari.
The prime minister said the PPP had strengthened institutions, the parliament and ensured the independence of the election commission and the judiciary.
A large number of PPP activists and notables from Gujar Khan attended the function. Minister for Information Qamar Zaman Kaira, Minister for Capital Administration and Development Nazar Mohammad Gondal and Minister for Science and Technology Mir Changez Khan Jamali were also present.—Correspondent
