CHITRAL, March 16: A former district nazim of Chitral arrested lately over the alleged possession of stolen explosives was released from the district jail here on Saturday.

The release of Haji Maghfirat Shah, a Jamaat-i-Islami leader, came over the bail granted by the Swat circuit bench of Peshawar High Court.

Earlier, his bail pleas were rejected by the district and sessions judge and judicial magistrate.

After release, Mr Shah was taken to Atalique Chowk by JI activists in a rally.

He told participants that over a period of time, many unlawful events, including the poaching of a markhor in Chitral Gol National Park and construction of a house by a government officer near Chitral airport, had taken place in Chitral.

Mr Shah demanded that the Peshawar High Court chief justice order a judicial inquiry into the unlawful events and ensure action against those responsible for them.

On the occasion, former JI district chief Maulana Sher Aziz complained that said Mr Shah was falsely implicated in the explosive case and that he was an honest man.— Correspondent
