KARACHI: Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan late on Tuesday signed a summary sent by Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah for the dissolution of the provincial assembly, DawnNews reported.

The decision came after Sindh’s ruling Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and the opposition Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) agreed over the nomination of Justice (retd) Zahid Qurban Alvi as the caretaker chief minister of the province.

Justice Alvi, who sources say has been agreed upon as the consensus-man for provincial caretaker chief minister, is expected to take oath as caretaker chief minister on Wednesday.

Sources added that the two parties came to the decision after holding prolonged talks and discussing several names forwarded by various parties.

Shah will remain the chief minister until caretaker CM is announced in the province.

The governor, upon advice of the CM, has dissolved the Sindh Assembly 15 days prior to its constitutional expiry, which was due on April 5.
