PESHAWAR, March 25: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) failed to announce names of all its candidates in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for the upcoming general elections owing to internal differences.

According to insiders, PPP couldn’t finalise names of nine candidates for National Assembly and 22 candidates for provincial assembly seats in the province owing to rift in the party.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, PPP provincial information secretary Liaquat Shabab announced the names of 26 candidates for National Assembly seats out of the total 35 seats in the province. Likewise, he unveiled the names of 77 candidates for provincial assembly seats out of the total 99 seats in the province.

The names of women and minority candidates would be announced later.

A number of applicants, who were ignored in award of tickets, had already announced to contest the elections independently. All the former MNAs and MPAs of PPP have been allotted tickets but Anwar Khan of Dir Upper has been replaced.

Mr Shabab said that names of the remaining candidates would be announced within a couple of days. “These names were sent by the provincial parliamentary board of the party to federal parliamentary board, which approved them,” he added.
