LARKANA, Jan 28: Venting anger against police inefficiency and violence, the protesters on Tuesday staged two big rallies in Nasirabad and Warah, observed strike in the former town, and observed a token hunger strike here.
Nasirabad, a centre of trade activities, remained shut as a mark of protest against the police failure to contain rising crime in the town.
A big procession was also taken out there against the police police failure to recover a hostage, Yaseen Massan, who had been kidnapped from the heart of the town about four days back.
The participants, led by the union council Nazim, Mohammed Hayat Shaikh, after marching on the main roads of the town, gathered at Badah bus stop, where Shaikh, Rafi Leghari, Aijaz Halepoto and others made speeches.
They demanded early release of Massan and threatened to broaden the scope of their protest otherwise.
A big procession was taken out in Warah on the call of the Awami Tehrik over what it termed the blackmailing attitude of the investigation wing of the police.
The procession began from the bus terminus and ended at the Fazil Raho Chowk.
Speaking on the occasion, Sartaj Chandio of the AT, Maulvi Mohammad Siddiq of the Shehri Ittehad and others alleged that the sub-inspector, investigation wing, Nasirabad police, was in league with criminals.
They demanded stern action and removal of the sub-inspector.
Meanwhile, 20 villagers, including women and children, observed a token hunger strike outside press club here.
They were demanding early arrest of the absconding SHO of Rasheed Waggan, Abdul Majeed Brohi, for being involved in killing a villager, Qurban Jat.
The protesters, including Ms Bhiraee, Ms Arbab Khatoon and Ms Naseeban, warned that if the SHO was not arrested till Jan 31, they would resort to extreme action.
A police team had forcibly entered into the house of late Mirjat on Jan 16 in Shah Murad Abro village to arrest him for recovery of a debt amount on the complain of Mehar Jat.
The situation grew tense when the police began dragging Qurban on which the villagers protested.
The police opened fire and one of the bullets hit Qurban in his forehead.
He was admitted to the Chandka Medical College Hospital where he died after going through surgery on Jan 20.
The villagers had nominated the SHO and three policemen in the case. Since then the SHO is absconding.
