ISLAMABAD, Jan 28: Pakistan on Tuesday shot down a pilotless Indian spy plane which crossed into Pakistan airspace in the disputed Kashmir region.

According to an ISPR Press release the two Indian remote-piloted vehicles (RPVs) crossed over the Line of Control in occupied Kashmir during the last 48 hours.

In Shingu sector the Indian RPV entered about two kilometres inside Pakistan airspace while in Haji Pir sector the ingress was about six kilometres.

“Pakistan troops took appropriate measures which forced the Indian RPVs to abandon their spying mission. One intruding RPV was seen falling in flames,” the press release said.

It said that more than 200 similar violations by India had taken place in 2002. “The proof of which has been provided with the shooting down of these unmanned aircraft in the past.”—APP

CLAIM REJECTED: India on Tuesday rejected a claim that Pakistan had shot down an unmanned spy plane intruding into its air space, AFP adds.

“There is no truth in this claim as no such incident has happened,” Indian army spokesman B. M. Mohta told a television news channel.

Islamabad said in a statement that the Indian spy plane along with another unmanned drone had intruded into Pakistan air space during the “last 48 hours”, but the other plane had escaped harm.
